Dec. 11, 1920 — June 15, 2020
Ruth Priscilla (Craig) Hager passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020, at the age of 99. A third-generation Californian, she was born in Oakland on Dec. 11, 1920, and grew up there during the Great Depression.
She graduated from Oakland Technical High in 1938 and married during World War II. By the 1950s she was a single mom raising her son and daughter in Concord and working as a recording clerk for Contra Costa County, retiring after 30 years in 1982. By 1985, with her children grown, she moved to Davis to help raise grandchildren and lovingly hosted many family holiday celebrations.
In 2012, she moved to Sonoma to live with her son, Craig Hager, and his wife Alla. Her final 凯发体育官方sporthome was the Silver Linings Care 凯发体育官方sporthome in Fair Oaks and the entire family is grateful for the compassionate care she received there.
Her life was one of complete devotion to family, always desiring to give more than she received. Perhaps not adventurous by nature, she still traveled to France to visit her grandson and ventured to England, Scotland, Mexico, Prince Edward Island and, at 94, went to Ireland. This year she lived long enough to know three of her great-grandsons had just graduated from college.
She is survived by her son, Craig Hager and his wife Alla; daughter Susan von Geldern and her husband Rick; grandchildren Kirk Sherriff, Sarah Rigney, Rosemary Sherriff, Rebecca Hager and Amber Whitmer; great-grandchildren Kristine, Rumi, Zain, Rich, Ella, Zerin, Ayden and Emerson (another on the way); great-great-grandchild Rose; and her nephew Bill Cullen and his wife Bonnie, his children Shanon and Shawn and his granddaughter Jessica.
She took great satisfaction in her family’s successes and was always there to support each and every one of us every step of the way. Mom, you did a good job, thank you.ShareTweet
