April 1, 1937 — May 16, 2020
Barry McClure, a longtime Davis resident, died peacefully at 凯发体育官方sporthome from complications of kidney cancer on May 16, 2020.
Born in Arcata, he attended Lassen High School and Chico State College. In high school he excelled in track and played football. Throughout his life he continued to be an avid follower of track. After moving to Davis, he began to play tennis and became a devoted player of the sport. For many years he especially enjoyed the friendship and partnership of his Wednesday tennis regulars.
After college Barry joined the Army Transportation Corps and was stationed in Livorno, Italy, where he met and married his wife, Laura Vincenzi. Their many worldwide travel adventures began there with his first new car, a Volkswagen Bug, in which they toured Europe and then drove it across the United States to his 凯发体育官方sporthome town of Susanville in Lassen County.
His first job was with Bank of America in Chester and, although not planned, it became a progressively responsible 38-year career that took him to many locations in Northern California. His banking career was not void of excitement as twice the branches where he was working were robbed at gunpoint.
Barry enjoyed retirement. A favorite activity was the very early morning bike ride to coffee. He took pride in tending his yard, doing volunteer work and especially traveling. He and Laura took several road trips near and far and were frequent overseas travelers. He touched the lives of many people with his engaged conversations and neighborly connections.
Barry is survived by his wife Laura; brother Craig and wife Caryl ; and nieces Deanna Herman (Michael) and Laure Zmurk (Greg). He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Vera (Armstrong).
A private service was held graveside at the Davis Cemetery.
The family thanks Yolo Hospice for their support and the many friends for their expressions of sympathy.ShareTweet
