Letter: Sounding worse but more diverse

The New York Times chief classical music critic Anthony Tommasini has written an article (https://web.archive.org/web/20200716091407/https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/16/arts/music/blind-auditions-orchestras-race.html ) titled “To Make Orchestras More Diverse, End Blind Auditions.” The thesis of Tommasini’s argument sounds like a “Social Justice Studies” course project.

Let nothing exist free of examination by diversity commissars who are tasked with achieving accurate diversity distributions in every aspect of existence … except the NFL and NBA, of course.

If orchestras sound worse but are more diverse, well hey, isn’t the joy of wallowing in woke virtue the primary reason we listen to music?
