Letter: How to ‘Unrig’ elections

If you’re looking for some mid-summer election inspiration, I have a great suggestion. Join us for the final event in the Community Read Summer Series on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. to hear from David Daley, of “Unrigged.”

“Unrigged” is a follow-up to Daley’s 2016 book Ratf**ked, in which he outlines the tactics used by some Republican political operatives to gain greater control of the American Congress, under a well-documented project called REDMAP, where voter suppression, gerrymandering and other methods are used to favor Republican outcomes.

In 2020’s “Unrigged,” Daley documents inspiring stories about how “Americans are battling back to save democracy.”

I have heard Daley speak and found him to be incredibly knowledgable about the perils we face with election rigging — depressingly so — but also very encouraging about how we fight back. I’m expecting his talk on Wednesday, moderated by local, intrepid activist Beth Foraker, to be full of fascinating facts and especially motivating as we near the November election.

Their conversation starts at 7 p.m. and will be held via Zoom. And it’s free! To register, go to Bit.ly/Meet_Daley. This event is jointly hosted by SisterDistrictCA-3.org and IndivisibleYolo.org.

See you there!
